The Bible Online

The links below are to sites that offer the opportunity to read the Bible.  They also offer commentaries on both the setting and the meaning of the scriptures. Some of the sites offer discussions of the various books of the Bible.  Unfortunately, the sites have "other stuff" to sell.  If you can filter out all the other stuff, these sites can be quite useful.

1. Bible Gateway This site allows you to pick several translations of the scripture in a number of languages.  Uniquely, you are also able to listen to the scripture being read in several translations. What a great way to have your breakfast, listening to the Word of God beginning read. The link above takes you to a page with all the translations that are available. Chose the translation you wish to read (some also offer audio capabilities) and the chapter where you chose to start. To change translations or switch to another book, go back to "available versions" in the menu. The other tools to maneuver on this site are relatively small and not immediately obvious. But the effort is well worth it.

2. Wikipedia for each book.  Search Wikipedia for the specific book. For example, wikipedia for Romans. There is also a side bar that allows you to link to the other books of the Bible. I found it easier to search for a specific book and then link to other books rather than search for Bible or New Testament initially.  These topics can be located once arriving on a page for a specific book. Good luck, there is a lot of information.
